Live recording, stereo, 6:43
Generative/performative remix of 1956 field recording by David Attenborough of a Balinese gamelan performance (with permission).
The Balinese gamelan consists of pairs of metallophones, slightly detuned, that are struck simultaneously when played. The interference pattern made by the detuned pairs creates a subtle beating, which is traditionally used to evoke the presence of God. This piece, therefore, is about pairs of sounds, and finding God.
Recording made from a live performance, July 2019.
